Woman Figure Study 1

To get up to snuff with my figures since I was so disheartened yesterday by it... I did a figure study!

I can tell how rusty I am with the human figure. But Deviantart plus ArtRage equals win. I know people will say that real life figure drawing is the ONLY way... But it's 12:20 am, I got home from work an hour ago after working 13 hours... Real life figure drawing just isn't in the realm of possiblity right now. I will say I wish I thought of this sooner! It's SUCH a great substitute for those who may not be able to afford it, find it or assemble a group together. I can't recommend it enough and I can't wait to do another one!

ArtRage also acts as a "real" canvas as you can't cheat by resizing or even moving the piece on the canvas (at least I haven't found out how), so it's every bit as real as you can really get without being in a studio dirtying up your hands with some charcoal

  1. Hi, found you via blogrush... I agree with you about ARTRAGE i found it a little while ago but haven't yet quite got to grips with it but I am hoping to start using it in anger anyday now.

  2. Thanks for stopping by and commenting :)

ArtRage does take some getting used to. I had to change my mentality toward it before I really started liking the program. If you view it as a weak form of Photoshop, I think you will be disappointed by it. If you view it as a massively advanced piece of digital paper, I think you will be pleasantly surprised!

  3. Oh yes, ArtRage. i love that program. I use it for painting more than sketching...

You CAN move things around (if you have the full version)
    - by resizing the canvas back and forth (eg, making it longer, then cutting it short so your image is on a different side)
-using the ...wow, mindblank... ah - 'edit this layer' option on the layer menu (but this moves the WHOLE layer - can also be very tricky if it's large/your computer is slow)
-turning it into a tracing image and moving it to the right place

by the way, are you on DeviantArt? I'm looking for people to add to http://www.squidoo.com/artrageondeviantart
